Relationship Between Tracheal Dimensions and Body Height Among Undergraduate Students

Abstract

The study examines the relationship between tracheal dimensions and body height among undergraduate students, with emphasis on determining whether variations in body height are associated with differences in selected tracheal measurements. The trachea is an important component of the conducting portion of the respiratory system, providing an airway between the larynx and the bronchi. Knowledge of its dimensions is important for understanding individual anatomical variation and may support airway assessment, interpretation of thoracic imaging, and procedures involving tracheal intubation and airway management. The study will assess selected tracheal dimensions and body height among undergraduate students using standardized anatomical and imaging-based measurement procedures. The specific objectives will include determining the selected dimensions of the trachea, measuring the body height of the participants, assessing the relationship between tracheal dimensions and body height, and identifying variations in the measured parameters among the participants. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. An appropriate sample of undergraduate students will be selected using a suitable sampling technique. Tracheal dimensions will be obtained using appropriate imaging-based procedures and standardized anatomical landmarks, while body height will be measured using a standardized anthropometric technique. The collected data will be analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, while correlation and appropriate inferential statistical tests will be used to determine the relationship between tracheal dimensions and body height. The study is expected to reveal variations in the selected tracheal dimensions among the participants. A measurable relationship may be observed between body height and some tracheal dimensions, with taller individuals potentially demonstrating differences in selected tracheal measurements. The study may provide useful reference information for interpreting tracheal measurements on imaging, understanding individual anatomical differences, and supporting procedures involving airway instrumentation and tracheal intubation. The study will conclude by documenting the selected tracheal dimensions and their relationship with body height among undergraduate students. It is recommended that individual anatomical variation be considered when assessing tracheal dimensions and planning airway-related procedures, while further studies involving larger and more diverse populations should be conducted to establish broader anatomical reference data.
