Relationship Between Trunk Proportions and Sitting Height Among Undergraduate Students
Abstract
The study examines the relationship between trunk proportions and sitting height among undergraduate students. Trunk proportions are important anthropometric characteristics that describe the relative contribution of the trunk to overall body dimensions, while sitting height provides an important measure of upper body length. Assessing these characteristics may provide useful information on variations in body proportions among young adults. The study will determine the sitting height and selected trunk dimensions of undergraduate students and assess the relationship between these measurements. Sitting height will be measured from the sitting surface to the vertex of the head using a standardized anthropometric procedure, while relevant trunk dimensions will be obtained using appropriate anatomical landmarks and measurement techniques. The measurements will be used to determine trunk proportions and examine their relationship with sitting height. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. Undergraduate students who meet the inclusion criteria will be selected using an appropriate sampling technique. Anthropometric measurements will be obtained under standardized conditions to ensure accuracy and consistency. The collected data will be analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, while correlation analysis will be used to determine the relationship between trunk proportions and sitting height. The study is expected to reveal variations in trunk proportions and sitting height among the participating undergraduate students. It is also expected to demonstrate the nature and strength of the relationship between trunk proportions and sitting height. The findings may indicate differences in upper body proportions among individuals within the study population. The findings of the study are expected to provide useful anthropometric information for anatomists, anthropologists, ergonomists, physiotherapists, clinicians, and other professionals concerned with human body proportions. The information may also be useful in ergonomic assessment, physical performance studies, clinical measurements, and future research involving body proportionality among young adults. The study will conclude by highlighting the observed relationship between trunk proportions and sitting height among undergraduate students. It will recommend the use of standardized anthropometric techniques for assessing sitting height and trunk dimensions and encourage further studies involving larger and more diverse populations to establish broader reference information on human body proportions.
