Sexual Dimorphism in Flexor Pollicis Longus Muscle Dimensions Among Young Adults

Abstract

The study examines sexual dimorphism in flexor pollicis longus muscle dimensions among young adults, with emphasis on differences in selected morphometric characteristics of the muscle between male and female individuals. The flexor pollicis longus is a deep muscle of the anterior compartment of the forearm that primarily flexes the interphalangeal joint of the thumb and contributes to thumb movement and hand function. Its dimensions may vary among individuals and may demonstrate differences between the sexes. The study will determine selected dimensions of the flexor pollicis longus muscle among young adults and compare the measurements between male and female participants. The specific objectives will include measuring relevant muscle dimensions, determining the mean and standard deviation of the measurements for each sex, assessing differences between male and female groups, and documenting the extent of morphological variation observed within the study population. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. An appropriate sample of young adults will be selected using a suitable sampling technique.
