Study of the Anatomical Relations of the Common Bile Duct

Abstract

The study examines the anatomical relations of the common bile duct, with emphasis on its course and relationships with the structures of the hepatobiliary and upper abdominal regions. The common bile duct is an important component of the extrahepatic biliary system and conveys bile from the hepatic and cystic ducts toward the duodenum. Its close anatomical relationships with the liver, gallbladder, duodenum, pancreas, portal vein, and hepatic vessels make detailed knowledge of its anatomy important for understanding normal biliary organization and supporting clinical procedures involving the hepatobiliary system. The study will assess the anatomical relations of the common bile duct using standardized anatomical landmarks and appropriate dissection, imaging-based, or anatomical specimen assessment procedures. The specific objectives will include identifying the course and boundaries of the common bile duct, documenting its anterior, posterior, medial, and lateral relationships where applicable, assessing its relationship with the portal vein and hepatic vessels, and describing its relationship with the duodenum and pancreas before its termination. A descriptive anatomical research design will be adopted for the study. Appropriate anatomical specimens, imaging materials, or other suitable anatomical resources will be selected using an appropriate sampling or selection procedure, depending on the assessment method employed.
