Assessment of Farmers’ Knowledge of Agricultural Produce Receiving Records

Abstract

The study assesses farmers’ knowledge of agricultural produce receiving records. Agricultural produce receiving records involve the systematic documentation of information about farm produce received by buyers, storage facilities, processing centres, cooperatives, or other destinations. Such records may include the type and quantity of produce received, date of receipt, source, condition, recipient, and other relevant details. Adequate knowledge of receiving records can improve traceability, inventory management, transaction verification, accountability, and coordination within agricultural supply chains. The study will assess farmers’ level of knowledge of agricultural produce receiving records. It will specifically examine farmers’ understanding of the purpose and importance of receiving records, the types of information contained in such records, procedures for recording received produce, and the use of receiving records for monitoring agricultural transactions. The study will also identify farmers’ major sources of information on receiving records and examine the challenges that may affect their knowledge and effective use of these records. A descriptive survey research design will be adopted for the study. The population will comprise farmers in the selected study area, from whom respondents will be selected using an appropriate sampling procedure. Data will be collected through structured questionnaires designed to obtain information on farmers’ knowledge, awareness, sources of information, and exposure to agricultural produce receiving records. The data collected will be analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency counts, percentages, means, and standard deviation, while appropriate inferential statistical techniques may be used where necessary. The study is expected to reveal varying levels of farmers’ knowledge of agricultural produce receiving records. Farmers with greater exposure to agricultural extension education, training programmes, organized marketing activities, and record-keeping information are expected to demonstrate better knowledge of receiving record procedures. The study may also identify knowledge gaps relating to recording quantities, dates, sources, product condition, recipients, and other relevant information associated with the receipt of farm produce. The findings will provide useful information to agricultural extension personnel, policymakers, agricultural development agencies, farmers’ organizations, produce marketers, storage operators, and other stakeholders involved in agricultural value-chain development. The findings are expected to highlight areas where farmers require additional education and technical support on produce receiving records. Improved knowledge may help farmers verify deliveries, maintain accurate transaction records, monitor produce movement, reduce discrepancies, and strengthen accountability in agricultural marketing activities. The study will conclude that adequate knowledge of agricultural produce receiving records is important for effective documentation, traceability, and management of farm produce transactions. It will recommend strengthened extension education, practical demonstrations, farmer training programmes, and simplified guidelines on receiving record preparation and management. Improving farmers’ knowledge of receiving records is expected to contribute to better record keeping, transaction verification, accountability, traceability, and efficiency within agricultural production and marketing systems.
