Correlation Between Earlobe Length and External Ear Length Among Undergraduate Students

Abstract

The study examines the correlation between earlobe length and external ear length among undergraduate students. The external ear is an important anatomical structure involved in hearing, identification, and facial morphology, while its dimensions may vary among individuals. Understanding the relationship between earlobe length and overall external ear length may provide useful anthropometric information for anatomical and forensic applications. The study will assess earlobe length and external ear length among undergraduate students and determine the degree of association between the two measurements. Earlobe length will be measured from the lowest point of the earlobe to its point of attachment with the surrounding auricular structures, while external ear length will be measured using standardized anatomical landmarks. The study will also examine the distribution and variation of the measurements among the participants. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. Undergraduate students who meet the established inclusion criteria will be selected using an appropriate sampling technique. Data will be obtained through direct anthropometric measurements using suitable instruments and standardized procedures. The collected data will be analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, while correlation analysis will be used to determine the relationship between earlobe length and external ear length. The study is expected to reveal the mean earlobe length and external ear length of the participants and demonstrate the degree and direction of association between the two variables. It is also expected to identify whether individuals with longer external ears tend to have proportionally longer earlobes.
