Relationship Between Intercanine and Intermolar Widths Among Young Adults

Abstract

The study will examine the relationship between intercanine and intermolar widths among young adults, with emphasis on determining the extent to which variation in the transverse width of the dental arch at the canine region is associated with variation at the molar region. Intercanine and intermolar widths are important dental anthropometric measurements that provide information about the transverse dimensions and overall configuration of the dental arch. Understanding the relationship between these measurements may provide useful information for dental, orthodontic, and anatomical assessments. The study will specifically determine the mean intercanine and intermolar widths among the participants and assess the strength and direction of the relationship between the two measurements. Intercanine width will be assessed as the transverse distance between standardized canine landmarks, while intermolar width will be determined between corresponding standardized molar landmarks. Appropriate dental anthropometric procedures will be used to ensure consistent identification of landmarks and accurate measurement. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. Young adult participants will be selected using an appropriate sampling technique, and relevant demographic information will be obtained.
