Relationship Between Pelvic Stability and Lower Limb Functional Performance Among Young Adults
Abstract
The study examines the relationship between pelvic stability and lower limb functional performance among young adults, with emphasis on the role of pelvic control in maintaining efficient movement and coordinated function of the lower extremities. The pelvis provides an important mechanical link between the trunk and lower limbs and contributes to postural control, weight transfer, balance, and movement efficiency. Understanding the relationship between pelvic stability and lower limb functional performance may provide useful information on normal musculoskeletal function among young adults. The study will assess pelvic stability and lower limb functional performance among young adults using appropriate standardized clinical and functional assessment procedures. The specific objectives will include determining the level of pelvic stability among the participants, assessing lower limb functional performance, evaluating differences in performance between the dominant and non-dominant limbs where applicable, and determining the relationship between pelvic stability and selected measures of lower limb functional performance. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. An appropriate sample of young adults will be selected using an appropriate sampling technique. Pelvic stability will be assessed using standardized clinical procedures for evaluating pelvic control and postural stability, while lower limb functional performance will be assessed using appropriate functional performance tests. Data obtained from the assessments will be analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, while appropriate correlation and inferential statistical tests will be applied to determine the relationship between the study variables. The study is expected to reveal measurable variation in pelvic stability and lower limb functional performance among the participants. A significant relationship may be observed between pelvic stability and selected measures of lower limb functional performance, with differences potentially occurring in balance, movement control, or functional task performance. Differences between the dominant and non-dominant limbs may also be observed where applicable, although the findings will describe association rather than establish a causal relationship. The findings will be useful to anatomists, physiotherapists, orthopaedic practitioners, sports medicine professionals, rehabilitation specialists, and other healthcare professionals involved in the assessment of pelvic and lower limb function. Information obtained from the study may contribute to a better understanding of the functional importance of pelvic stability and may support appropriate assessment of movement control, balance, and lower limb performance among young adults. The study will conclude by documenting the relationship between pelvic stability and lower limb functional performance among the study population. It is recommended that standardized procedures be used when assessing pelvic stability and lower limb functional performance, while further studies involving larger and more diverse populations should be conducted to provide broader reference information on pelvic control, limb dominance, balance, and functional lower limb performance.
