Relationship Between Tongue Width and Oral Cavity Breadth Among Young Adults

Abstract

The study examines the relationship between tongue width and oral cavity breadth among young adults. The tongue is an important muscular organ of the oral cavity involved in speech, mastication, swallowing, and taste, while oral cavity breadth contributes to the spatial dimensions available for tongue movement and function. Understanding the relationship between these anatomical measurements may provide useful information on normal oral morphological variation among young adults. The study will determine tongue width and oral cavity breadth among young adults and assess the relationship between the two measurements. Tongue width will be assessed at a standardized anatomical level using an appropriate oral measurement procedure, while oral cavity breadth will be obtained using suitable intraoral landmarks and standardized dental anthropometric techniques. The measurements will be recorded systematically for each participant. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. Young adults who meet the eligibility criteria will be selected using an appropriate sampling technique. Data will be collected through direct oral measurements using suitable instruments and standardized procedures. The collected data will be analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, while correlation analysis will be used to determine the relationship between tongue width and oral cavity breadth. The study is expected to reveal the distribution of tongue width and oral cavity breadth among the participants and determine whether a measurable relationship exists between the two variables.
