THE NATURE, CONCEPT AND SCOPE OF MANAGEMENT IN AN ORGANISATION

ABSTRACT

This research project examined the structure of the nature, concept and scope of management existing in NEPA as well as the extent to which this management policy satisfies the employees of the organization towards greater productivity. The research observed that despite the huge amount of money spent by management of NEPA on workers welfare, these workers still feel dissatisfied with management policy for than specifically, the workers amongst others would proffer most of their management policy to be in case rather than in kind. They also wanted the management to include pension scheme in the management policy. Absence of these and many others have led to various forms of indiscipline and non-commitment and fraud among NEPA workers.   These militate against the efficiency of NEPA as an organization. The researcher therefore recommend amongst others that pension scheme should be included in NEPA management policy should be in cash and less in kind.   She also suggested some other ways NEPA can raise more fund to support her management policy for workers and how these management policy can effectively implemented without their abuse.

Managers serve as the orchestrators who plan, organize, lead, and control activities within the organization. They align efforts, motivate employees, make critical decisions, and adapt to changing circumstances to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the organization.

One of the key elements of management is the process of planning. Planning involves setting goals, defining strategies, and formulating action plans to achieve desired outcomes. It provides a roadmap for the organization, outlining the steps and resources required to accomplish objectives. Effective planning considers both short-term and long-term goals, assesses internal and external factors, and promotes flexibility to adapt to unforeseen challenges. 

Organizing is another crucial function of management that involves structuring and arranging resources and activities. It entails establishing roles, responsibilities, and relationships within the organization. Managers must create an organizational structure that facilitates efficient workflow, clear communication, and coordination among different departments and teams. By organizing resources effectively, managers can optimize productivity, minimize redundancy, and enhance overall operational efficiency.

Leading is a critical aspect of management that involves guiding and motivating individuals and teams towards the achievement of organizational goals. Leadership encompasses the ability to inspire, influence, and empower employees to perform at their best. Effective leaders establish a positive work culture, foster teamwork, and promote employee engagement and development. They communicate a clear vision, set high standards, and provide guidance and support to ensure the success of their teams.

Control is an essential function of management that involves monitoring and evaluating performance to ensure that activities are in line with established goals and standards. It includes measuring progress, comparing actual results with planned objectives, identifying deviations, and taking corrective actions when necessary. Through effective control mechanisms, managers can maintain accountability, identify areas of improvement, and ensure the organization remains on track towards its goals.

The concept of management revolves around the application of knowledge, skills, and techniques to accomplish tasks and make informed decisions. It is based on the understanding that organizations operate in complex and dynamic environments, and managers must navigate uncertainties and challenges to achieve success.
