INTRODUCTION
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
The importance of flexibility in human kinetics cannot be overstated, as it plays a crucial role in optimizing athletic performance and reducing the risk of injuries (Sekulic et al., 2017). Among the various components of flexibility, trunk flexibility holds particular significance due to its implications for overall movement efficiency and injury prevention (González-Ravé et al., 2020). However, achieving and maintaining optimal trunk flexibility often requires targeted training interventions, such as plyometric training, which has been shown to enhance flexibility in various populations (Rey et al., 2019). Plyometric training involves rapid stretching and contraction of muscles, leading to improvements in both muscular power and flexibility (Dello Iacono et al., 2021). Despite the extensive research on plyometric training and its effects on different aspects of physical fitness, limited studies have specifically investigated its impact on trunk flexibility among undergraduate female human kinetics students.
The significance of this research lies in its potential to fill this gap in the literature and provide valuable insights into the effectiveness of plyometric training in improving trunk flexibility in this specific population. Understanding the effects of plyometric training on trunk flexibility among undergraduate female human kinetics students can have practical implications for designing more targeted and efficient training programs aimed at enhancing flexibility and overall physical performance in this demographic (González-Ravé et al., 2020). Additionally, given the growing interest in plyometric training among athletes and fitness enthusiasts alike, elucidating its effects on trunk flexibility can contribute to the body of knowledge informing evidence-based training practices (Rey et al., 2019).
The University of Benin serves as an ideal setting for this study, given its diverse student body and established human kinetics program. Moreover, the findings of this study can directly inform curriculum development and instructional practices within the human kinetics program at the University of Benin, ensuring that students receive comprehensive training that addresses all relevant components of physical fitness, including flexibility (Dello Iacono et al., 2021).
The duration of the intervention, set at eight weeks, is strategically chosen to allow for meaningful adaptations to occur while minimizing the risk of overtraining or injury (Rey et al., 2019).
