Impact of Blockchain Accounting Education on Students’ Understanding of Digital Transaction Verification in Nigerian Universities

Abstract

The emergence of blockchain technology has introduced significant changes in the way financial and accounting transactions can be recorded, verified, stored, and shared. Blockchain provides a decentralized and tamper-resistant system for recording transactions, with applications in accounting, auditing, financial reporting, supply-chain management, and digital payments. As accounting practices become increasingly technology-driven, accounting education students require an understanding of how blockchain can support transaction verification, improve the reliability of accounting records, strengthen audit trails, and enhance transparency in financial reporting. However, limited exposure to blockchain concepts, inadequate practical training, insufficient instructional resources, and limited access to blockchain-based accounting applications may constrain students' understanding of digital transaction verification. Blockchain accounting education provides an opportunity to bridge the gap between traditional accounting knowledge and emerging digital accounting technologies. Against this background, this study investigates the impact of blockchain accounting education on students' understanding of digital transaction verification in Nigerian universities. The study will be anchored on Human Capital Theory, Constructivist Learning Theory, and the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). Human Capital Theory explains how investment in specialized technological education can improve students' knowledge, competencies, productivity, and employability. Constructivist Learning Theory emphasizes active learning, practical application, problem-solving, and knowledge construction through meaningful learning experiences, providing a basis for examining how practical blockchain accounting education may improve students' understanding of digital transaction verification. The Technology Acceptance Model explains how students' perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use of blockchain technology may influence their willingness to learn and apply blockchain-based accounting systems. Collectively, these theoretical perspectives provide a suitable framework for explaining how blockchain accounting education may influence students' understanding of digital transaction verification in Nigerian universities. The study will adopt a quantitative quasi-experimental or analytical cross-sectional research design. The study population will comprise undergraduate and postgraduate accounting students enrolled in selected public and private universities across Nigeria. A multistage sampling technique will be used to select geopolitical zones, states, universities, faculties or departments, levels of study, and eligible accounting students. Blockchain accounting education will be assessed using indicators such as exposure to blockchain-related accounting instruction, frequency and duration of training, blockchain fundamentals, distributed ledger technology, decentralized transaction recording, cryptographic verification, transaction validation, consensus mechanisms, smart contracts, digital audit trails, blockchain-based financial records, accounting information systems, practical blockchain demonstrations, simulations, case studies, and blockchain transaction exercises. Students' understanding of digital transaction verification will be assessed using indicators such as knowledge of transaction validation, transaction authentication, blockchain transaction records, cryptographic verification, consensus mechanisms, audit trails, immutability, transparency, traceability, detection of unauthorized changes, verification of transaction history, identification of duplicate or suspicious transactions, and ability to interpret blockchain-based transaction records. Data will be collected using structured questionnaires, standardized blockchain accounting knowledge tests, digital transaction verification exercises, scenario-based questions, case studies, practical demonstrations, and pre-test and post-test assessments where a quasi-experimental intervention is adopted. Descriptive statistics will be used to summarize students' demographic and academic characteristics, exposure to blockchain education, sources of blockchain information, practical experience, and levels of understanding of digital transaction verification. Inferential statistical techniques, including chi-square tests, paired and independent t-tests, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis where appropriate, will be used to determine the impact of blockchain accounting education on students' understanding of digital transaction verification. Where a quasi-experimental design is adopted, transaction-verification knowledge scores before and after the educational intervention may be compared with those of a comparison group to determine changes associated with the intervention. Diagnostic tests will also be conducted to assess the reliability, validity, and robustness of the findings. The study is expected to find that blockchain accounting education has a significant positive impact on students' understanding of digital transaction verification in Nigerian universities. Students exposed to structured, practical, and accounting-focused blockchain education are expected to demonstrate stronger knowledge of transaction validation, authentication, traceability, audit trails, immutability, consensus mechanisms, and blockchain-based verification processes than students with limited exposure. Practical demonstrations and simulations may help students understand how blockchain records transactions and how transaction information can be verified without relying solely on conventional centralized record-keeping systems. Blockchain-based case studies may also improve students' ability to examine transaction histories, identify inconsistencies, understand digital audit trails, and evaluate the reliability of blockchain-supported accounting information. However, limited access to blockchain technology, inadequate technological infrastructure, unreliable internet connectivity and electricity, insufficiently trained lecturers, limited practical datasets, and the technical complexity of blockchain concepts may constrain effective learning. The study therefore expects practical, accessible, technology-supported, and industry-relevant blockchain accounting education to contribute significantly to improved understanding of digital transaction verification among accounting students in Nigerian universities. The study is expected to contribute to the literature on blockchain accounting education, digital transaction verification, accounting education, blockchain technology, distributed ledger technology, digital auditing, accounting information systems, financial technology, digital accounting, and higher education in Nigeria. The findings will provide useful information to the National Universities Commission, universities, faculties of management sciences and education, accounting departments, accounting educators, professional accounting bodies, auditors, financial technology organizations, curriculum developers, employers, technology specialists, and policymakers regarding strategies for preparing accounting students for emerging digital accounting environments. The study will also provide evidence-based recommendations for integrating blockchain accounting into accounting education curricula, strengthening lecturers' blockchain competencies, improving access to blockchain-based learning resources, incorporating practical transaction-verification exercises into accounting courses, promoting university-industry collaboration, and developing students' technological understanding of blockchain-supported accounting and auditing systems in Nigeria.

I actually googled and saw about iproject master, copied the number and contacted them through WhatsApp to ask for the availability of the material and to my luck they have it. So there was a delay with the project due to the covid19 pandemic. I was really scared before making the payment cause I’ve been scammed twice, they attended so well to me and that made me trust the process and made the payment and provided them with proof, I got my material in less than 10minutes
