Effect of Adult Education on Adults’ Knowledge of Computer Hardware Troubleshooting

Abstract

Adult education provides opportunities for adults to acquire practical knowledge and skills that can improve their ability to participate effectively in technological, occupational, and everyday activities. Computer hardware troubleshooting involves identifying, diagnosing, and addressing common problems associated with computer components and equipment. However, some adults may have limited knowledge of hardware troubleshooting procedures because of inadequate exposure to structured computer-related learning opportunities. This study therefore examines the effect of adult education on adults’ knowledge of computer hardware troubleshooting. Adult education programmes can provide learners with practical and experience-based learning through demonstrations, guided practice, discussions, illustrations, and supervised activities. In computer hardware education, adults can learn to identify major hardware components, recognize common hardware faults, carry out basic diagnostic procedures, check physical connections, and apply appropriate troubleshooting steps. These learning activities can enable adults to relate theoretical explanations to practical computer maintenance situations and develop greater confidence in handling basic hardware problems. Adults’ knowledge of computer hardware troubleshooting refers to their understanding of computer components, common hardware problems, diagnostic procedures, and appropriate steps for resolving basic faults. Adequate knowledge is important because incorrect identification of hardware problems or inappropriate troubleshooting procedures can result in ineffective repairs and unnecessary equipment damage. Adult education may therefore improve adults’ knowledge by providing structured explanations, demonstrations, practical exercises, and opportunities to practise basic troubleshooting procedures. The study will adopt a suitable descriptive survey research design. The population will comprise adults participating in selected adult education or computer-related learning programmes, from which an appropriate sample will be selected using a suitable sampling procedure. Data will be collected through a structured questionnaire and an appropriate knowledge assessment designed to measure adults’ knowledge of computer hardware troubleshooting. The research instruments will be subjected to appropriate validation procedures, while their reliability will be established before administration. Data collected will be analysed using relevant descriptive and inferential statistical techniques to determine the effect of adult education on adults’ knowledge of computer hardware troubleshooting. The study is expected to establish that participation in adult education has a positive effect on adults’ knowledge of computer hardware troubleshooting. Adults exposed to structured learning activities are expected to demonstrate improved knowledge of hardware components, fault identification, basic diagnostic procedures, connection checks, and appropriate troubleshooting steps. The findings may further indicate that practical demonstrations and supervised exercises enhance adults’ ability to understand, retain, and apply knowledge relating to common computer hardware problems. The study will conclude that adult education can provide an effective avenue for improving adults’ knowledge of computer hardware troubleshooting. It will recommend that adult education programmes incorporate practical computer hardware activities, demonstrations using relevant equipment, supervised troubleshooting exercises, and appropriate instructional materials. Strengthening these learning opportunities can enhance adults’ technological knowledge, improve their ability to respond to basic hardware problems, and support their participation in personal, educational, and vocational activities.
