Effect of Adult Education on Adults’ Knowledge of Event Planning Procedures

Abstract

Adult education provides adults with opportunities to acquire practical knowledge and skills that can support participation in social, community, and entrepreneurial activities. Event planning procedures involve the organized steps required to prepare, coordinate, implement, and evaluate an event successfully. Knowledge of these procedures is important because effective event planning requires proper organization, scheduling, budgeting, venue selection, resource coordination, communication, and attention to participants’ needs. This study will examine the effect of adult education on adults’ knowledge of event planning procedures. Adult education can expose adults to event planning concepts through structured discussions, demonstrations, case activities, group exercises, practical planning tasks, and guided learning experiences. Through these activities, adults can learn how to identify event objectives, develop planning schedules, select suitable venues, coordinate resources, prepare guest arrangements, and establish appropriate communication procedures. Learning activities can also introduce adults to contingency planning, event logistics, programme scheduling, and post-event evaluation. Such practical approaches can help learners connect event planning principles with real-life situations. Adults’ knowledge of event planning procedures involves their understanding of the major stages and activities required to organize an event effectively. It includes knowledge of event objectives, planning timelines, venue arrangements, resource requirements, participant coordination, communication, logistics, risk considerations, and evaluation procedures. Adequate knowledge can enable adults to approach event organization in a systematic manner and reduce avoidable planning difficulties. Adult education may therefore strengthen this knowledge by providing relevant information and opportunities for adults to practise different event planning activities. The study will adopt a suitable descriptive survey research design. The population will comprise adults participating in selected Adult Education, entrepreneurship, vocational, and community learning programmes, from which an appropriate sample will be selected using a suitable sampling procedure. Data will be collected through a structured questionnaire and an appropriate knowledge assessment designed to measure participants’ knowledge of event planning procedures. The research instruments will be subjected to appropriate validation procedures, while their reliability will be established before administration. Data collected will be analysed using relevant descriptive and inferential statistical techniques to determine the effect of adult education on adults’ knowledge of event planning procedures. The study is expected to establish that adult education has a positive effect on adults’ knowledge of event planning procedures. Adults exposed to relevant learning activities are expected to demonstrate improved understanding of event objectives, scheduling, venue selection, resource coordination, logistics, communication, contingency planning, and evaluation procedures. The study is also expected to show that practical planning exercises and guided activities can strengthen adults’ ability to understand the sequence and requirements involved in organizing successful events. The findings will have implications for Adult Education practitioners, community educators, entrepreneurship facilitators, event-training providers, and programme developers. Adult education programmes should incorporate practical event planning activities that allow learners to develop sample event plans, organize planning schedules, allocate resources, and consider possible challenges. Facilitators should also use realistic event scenarios and group activities to make learning more practical and encourage participants to apply planning principles to different types of events. The study will be significant to adult learners, community organizations, aspiring event planners, entrepreneurs, adult educators, and other stakeholders involved in event organization. It will recommend that adult education programmes provide accessible and practical learning opportunities on event planning through demonstrations, case activities, guided planning exercises, and group projects. The study will conclude that appropriately structured adult education can improve adults’ knowledge of event planning procedures and strengthen their capacity to approach event organization in a more systematic and effective manner.
