Effect of Adult Education on Adults’ Knowledge of Smartphone Repair Techniques

Abstract

Adult education provides opportunities for adults to acquire practical knowledge and skills that can support vocational development, employment, self-reliance, and participation in productive activities. Smartphone repair involves knowledge of mobile device components, repair tools, fault identification, disassembly and reassembly procedures, component replacement, and appropriate handling practices. However, some adults may have limited knowledge of smartphone repair techniques due to inadequate access to structured practical learning opportunities. This study therefore examines the effect of adult education on adults’ knowledge of smartphone repair techniques. Adult education programmes can provide practical and experience-based learning through demonstrations, guided instruction, discussions, illustrations, and supervised hands-on activities. In smartphone repair, adults can learn to identify common device components, use basic repair tools appropriately, diagnose simple faults, open and reassemble devices correctly, replace selected components, and observe proper handling procedures. Such learning activities can enable adults to relate explanations to practical experiences and develop a clearer understanding of the procedures involved in smartphone repair. Adults’ knowledge of smartphone repair techniques refers to their understanding of smartphone components, repair tools, fault identification procedures, repair processes, and appropriate handling practices. Adequate knowledge is important because incorrect diagnosis, improper tool use, careless handling of components, and inappropriate repair procedures can lead to further device damage. Adult education may therefore improve adults’ knowledge by providing structured instruction, practical demonstrations, and opportunities to observe and practise basic smartphone repair procedures. The study will adopt a suitable descriptive survey research design. The population will comprise adults participating in selected adult education or vocational programmes, from which an appropriate sample will be selected using a suitable sampling procedure. Data will be collected through a structured questionnaire and an appropriate knowledge assessment designed to measure adults’ knowledge of smartphone repair techniques. The research instruments will be subjected to appropriate validation procedures, while their reliability will be established before administration. Data collected will be analysed using relevant descriptive and inferential statistical techniques to determine the effect of adult education on adults’ knowledge of smartphone repair techniques. The study is expected to establish that participation in adult education has a positive effect on adults’ knowledge of smartphone repair techniques. Adults exposed to structured learning activities are expected to demonstrate improved knowledge of smartphone components, repair tools, fault identification, device disassembly and reassembly, component replacement, and appropriate handling procedures. The findings may further indicate that practical demonstrations and supervised activities enhance adults’ ability to understand and retain knowledge relating to smartphone repair. The study will conclude that adult education can provide an effective avenue for improving adults’ knowledge of smartphone repair techniques. It will recommend that adult education and vocational programmes provide appropriate repair tools, instructional materials, practical demonstrations, supervised hands-on activities, and relevant safety guidance. Strengthening these learning opportunities can enhance adults’ practical knowledge, support vocational skill development, and improve their capacity to undertake basic smartphone repair activities effectively.
