Impact of Adult Education on Adults’ Knowledge of Basic Event Coordination Procedures

Abstract

Basic event coordination procedures involve the organized activities required to plan, prepare, coordinate, and manage events effectively. Adult education can provide adults with relevant knowledge and practical skills needed to understand these procedures and participate effectively in event-related activities. Adequate knowledge of event coordination is important for ensuring proper organization, effective communication, appropriate scheduling, resource arrangement, and smooth execution of events. This study therefore seeks to examine the impact of adult education on adults’ knowledge of basic event coordination procedures. Adult education can expose learners to event coordination through group discussions, practical demonstrations, simulations, case studies, guided exercises, and participatory learning activities. Adults’ knowledge of basic event coordination procedures includes understanding event planning, preparation of venues, scheduling, task allocation, guest coordination, communication, resource arrangement, and monitoring of event activities. Practical learning experiences can help adults understand how different coordination tasks are organized and how they relate to one another during an event. Through realistic event scenarios and supervised activities, learners can develop a clearer understanding of the sequence of coordination activities and the responsibilities involved. The study is expected to establish that exposure to adult education improves participants’ knowledge of basic event coordination procedures. The study will adopt a suitable descriptive survey research design. The population will comprise adults participating in selected Adult Education, vocational, hospitality, and event-related learning programmes, from which an appropriate sample will be selected using a suitable sampling procedure. Data will be collected through a structured questionnaire and an appropriate knowledge assessment designed to measure adults’ knowledge of basic event coordination procedures. The research instruments will be subjected to appropriate validation procedures, while their reliability will be established before administration. Data collected will be analysed using relevant descriptive and inferential statistical techniques to determine the impact of adult education on adults’ knowledge of basic event coordination procedures. The study is expected to show that adults exposed to relevant educational activities demonstrate better knowledge of event preparation, scheduling, venue arrangements, task allocation, communication, guest coordination, and resource management. It may also indicate that practical approaches such as simulations, demonstrations, and case-based activities are useful for helping adults connect theoretical information with actual event coordination situations. Such findings would demonstrate the importance of adult education in developing practical knowledge that can support adults’ participation in event coordination activities. The study may have useful implications for adult educators, vocational trainers, event practitioners, hospitality instructors, and community development practitioners. Adult education programmes can incorporate realistic event-planning exercises, group projects, simulations, and supervised practical activities to strengthen participants’ knowledge. Greater attention can also be given to communication, scheduling, teamwork, venue preparation, resource coordination, and contingency planning. Improved knowledge may enhance adults’ confidence and readiness to participate in event-related employment, entrepreneurship, and community activities. The study is significant because improved knowledge of event coordination procedures can contribute to better organization, effective service delivery, teamwork, and successful execution of events. It is recommended that adult education programmes provide accessible and practical learning opportunities that expose adults to the major stages and responsibilities involved in event coordination. Adult educators and event practitioners should also integrate hands-on activities and realistic event scenarios into learning programmes. The study concludes that adult education can serve as an important means of improving adults’ knowledge of basic event coordination procedures and supporting effective participation in event-related activities.
