Abstract
Energy education refers to organized learning activities that provide adults with knowledge about energy use, conservation, efficiency, and responsible consumption, while the adoption of electricity-saving practices refers to adults’ willingness and ability to incorporate actions that reduce unnecessary electricity consumption in their daily lives. Electricity-saving practices can help households manage energy consumption more efficiently and reduce avoidable wastage. However, limited knowledge of energy conservation may discourage adults from consistently applying appropriate electricity-saving practices. This study therefore aims to examine the impact of energy education on adults’ adoption of electricity-saving practices. Energy education can expose adults to information about electricity consumption, energy efficiency, appliance use, unnecessary energy wastage, and practical methods of reducing electricity consumption. Through discussions, demonstrations, household examples, practical exercises, and instructional materials, adults can learn how everyday activities influence electricity use. Such educational activities can also help learners recognize opportunities to conserve electricity and understand the importance of applying energy-saving measures consistently. The adoption of electricity-saving practices involves incorporating appropriate actions such as switching off unused appliances, reducing unnecessary lighting, using energy-efficient equipment appropriately, and avoiding avoidable electricity consumption. Adults who receive relevant energy education may develop greater knowledge of energy conservation and become more willing to apply electricity-saving practices in their households. The study will therefore investigate whether energy education contributes to increased adoption of electricity-saving practices among adults. The study recommends that adult education programmes should incorporate practical energy education focused on electricity conservation, efficient appliance use, reduction of energy wastage, and responsible household consumption. Demonstrations, household examples, practical exercises, and periodic awareness activities should be used to reinforce learning and encourage consistent application. Community-based energy education should also be promoted to improve access to practical energy-conservation information. The study concludes that effective energy education can encourage adults to adopt electricity-saving practices and contribute to more responsible household energy use.
