Abstract

Event hospitality procedures refer to the organized practices involved in welcoming guests, preparing service areas, receiving attendees, providing food and beverages, maintaining appropriate service standards, and ensuring guest comfort during events. Vocational education can provide adults with practical knowledge and skills required to understand and apply appropriate hospitality procedures in different event settings. Adequate knowledge of event hospitality procedures is important for improving service quality, guest satisfaction, professional conduct, and effective event operations. This study therefore seeks to examine the impact of vocational education on adults’ knowledge of event hospitality procedures. Vocational education can expose adults to event hospitality procedures through practical demonstrations, role-playing, simulations, group discussions, supervised practice, and workplace-oriented learning activities. These approaches can help learners understand guest reception, seating arrangements, table service, food and beverage handling, communication with guests, service etiquette, and maintaining cleanliness within event environments. Practical activities can also allow adults to practise hospitality procedures in simulated event situations and receive guidance on appropriate service conduct. Such learning experiences can connect vocational knowledge with the practical requirements of event hospitality. Adults’ knowledge of event hospitality procedures refers to their ability to identify, explain, and understand the appropriate practices required for effective hospitality service during events. This includes knowledge of guest reception, service preparation, communication, seating arrangements, food and beverage service, etiquette, cleanliness, and responding appropriately to guest needs. Improved knowledge can enable adults to perform hospitality responsibilities more confidently and consistently. Vocational education is therefore expected to strengthen this knowledge by providing structured instruction and practical opportunities that allow adults to understand and apply event hospitality procedures. The study will adopt a suitable descriptive survey research design. The population will comprise adults participating in selected vocational education, hospitality, and event-related learning programmes, from which an appropriate sample will be selected using a suitable sampling procedure. Data will be collected through a structured questionnaire and an appropriate knowledge assessment designed to measure adults’ knowledge of event hospitality procedures. The research instruments will be subjected to appropriate validation procedures, while their reliability will be established before administration. Data collected will be analysed using relevant descriptive and inferential statistical techniques to determine the impact of vocational education on adults’ knowledge of event hospitality procedures. The study is expected to establish that vocational education has a positive impact on adults’ knowledge of event hospitality procedures. Adults exposed to relevant vocational learning are expected to demonstrate improved understanding of guest reception, service preparation, hospitality etiquette, food and beverage service, cleanliness, communication, and guest-care procedures. The study may also indicate that practical activities such as simulations and supervised practice are useful in helping adults understand how hospitality procedures are applied during actual events. Such findings would demonstrate the importance of vocational education in developing practical knowledge relevant to event hospitality services. The study may have useful implications for vocational educators, hospitality trainers, event managers, catering practitioners, and community development practitioners. Vocational education programmes can incorporate realistic event simulations, demonstrations, role-playing, and supervised practical activities to strengthen adults’ understanding of hospitality procedures. Greater attention can also be given to professional communication, guest relations, service etiquette, hygiene, and appropriate responses to guest needs. Improved knowledge may enhance adults’ readiness to participate effectively in event hospitality activities and support opportunities for employment and self-employment. The study is significant because improved knowledge of event hospitality procedures can contribute to better service delivery, guest satisfaction, professionalism, and effective event management. It is recommended that vocational education programmes provide practical and accessible learning opportunities that reflect the procedures commonly required in event hospitality settings. Vocational educators and hospitality practitioners should also integrate hands-on activities and realistic event scenarios into training programmes to strengthen learners’ practical understanding. The study concludes that vocational education can serve as an important means of improving adults’ knowledge of event hospitality procedures and supporting effective participation in hospitality-related activities.
