Analysis of Mortality Differentials Across Age Groups

Abstract

The study examines the analysis of mortality differentials across age groups, focusing on variations in mortality rates and death probabilities among individuals at different stages of life. Mortality patterns generally differ across age groups due to variations in demographic and underlying risk characteristics. Understanding these differences is important in actuarial science because mortality information provides a basis for life insurance valuation, pension planning, annuity calculations, and other applications involving survival and death probabilities. The study will investigate mortality differentials across selected age groups by examining differences in mortality rates, probabilities of death, survival probabilities, and life expectancy. It will assess the extent to which mortality experience changes between younger, middle-aged, and older population groups. The study will also examine the implications of these mortality variations for actuarial assessment and the estimation of future financial obligations. The analysis will focus on age-specific mortality rates, probability of death, survival rates, life expectancy, mortality patterns, and age-group classifications. Actuarial life-table techniques will be applied to calculate and compare mortality measures across selected age groups. It is therefore recommended that actuaries and other users of mortality data regularly analyse age-specific mortality patterns and update actuarial models to reflect observed changes in mortality experience across different age groups.
