Abstract
The study examines the application of actuarial models to health insurance premium estimation, focusing on how actuarial techniques can be used to estimate appropriate premium levels based on expected healthcare costs and insurance risks. Health insurance premiums are an important source of revenue for insurers and must be sufficient to cover expected claims, administrative expenses, and other financial obligations. Accurate premium estimation is therefore essential for maintaining the financial stability and sustainability of health insurance schemes. The study will investigate how actuarial models can be applied to estimate health insurance premiums by analysing important risk factors associated with healthcare claims. Variables such as claim frequency, claim severity, healthcare utilization, policyholder characteristics, and historical claims experience may influence expected insurance costs. The study concludes that actuarial models provide an important framework for estimating health insurance premiums and managing healthcare-related financial risks. It is therefore recommended that health insurers strengthen their claims data systems, apply appropriate actuarial models, regularly review premium assumptions, and incorporate changes in healthcare costs and claims experience into premium estimation processes to ensure adequate and sustainable health insurance pricing.
