Effect of Accelerated Benefit Structures on Life Insurance Premium Valuation

Abstract

Accelerated benefit structures refer to life insurance provisions that allow policyholders to receive specified portions of their insurance benefits before the normal policy maturity or death benefit payment under defined circumstances. These structures can alter the timing and amount of benefit payments and consequently influence the expected cash flows of life insurance contracts. Their valuation is therefore important in determining appropriate premiums and assessing the financial obligations associated with life insurance products. This study will examine the effect of accelerated benefit structures on life insurance premium valuation. It will assess how variations in accelerated benefit amounts, eligibility conditions, payment timing, and benefit periods influence the actuarial value of life insurance premiums. The study will also examine the relationship between accelerated benefits, policy duration, mortality assumptions, survival probabilities, and expected future insurance payments. The study will focus on accelerated benefit structures, benefit amounts, payment timing, policy duration, mortality assumptions, survival probabilities, interest rates, premium payments, expected benefit payments, and premium valuation. Actuarial valuation techniques will be applied to estimate the present value of future benefits and determine the corresponding premium requirements under different accelerated benefit arrangements. Comparative and sensitivity analyses will be used to evaluate changes in premium values under alternative benefit structures. A quantitative research approach will be adopted for the study. Relevant life insurance policy, premium, benefit payment, mortality, interest rate, and policy duration data will be analysed using descriptive statistics, actuarial present value calculations, cash flow projection, comparative analysis, scenario analysis, and sensitivity analysis. Alternative accelerated benefit structures will be evaluated to determine their effects on actuarial premium values and expected insurance obligations. The study is expected to reveal that accelerated benefit structures may have a significant effect on life insurance premium valuation. Earlier benefit payments may increase the present value of expected insurance outflows because benefits are paid sooner, while higher accelerated benefit amounts may further increase premium requirements. The magnitude of the effect may depend on the timing and size of accelerated payments, policy duration, mortality and survival probabilities, interest rates, and the conditions attached to the benefits. The study will be useful to actuaries, life insurance companies, underwriters, product developers, pricing analysts, financial managers, and insurance valuation specialists. It may provide useful information for evaluating accelerated benefit provisions, estimating appropriate premium levels, projecting insurance cash flows, assessing contractual liabilities, and designing sustainable life insurance products. The findings may also assist insurers in understanding the financial implications of providing benefits before their originally scheduled payment dates. The study concludes that accelerated benefit structures are important considerations in life insurance premium valuation because they can change the timing and magnitude of expected benefit payments. It is therefore recommended that insurers incorporate accelerated benefit assumptions into actuarial pricing models and regularly apply comparative and sensitivity analyses to evaluate their effects on premium requirements and insurance contract values.
