Effect of Insurance Data Encryption Requirements on Actuarial Data Accessibility

Abstract

Insurance companies rely on large volumes of policy, claims, premium, customer, and financial data for actuarial analysis and decision-making. Data encryption is an important security measure used to protect sensitive insurance information from unauthorised access, disclosure, and cyber threats. However, encryption requirements may also influence how easily authorised actuaries and other professionals can access, retrieve, transfer, and process data required for actuarial activities. This study will examine the effect of insurance data encryption requirements on actuarial data accessibility. It will assess how different encryption requirements influence the availability and accessibility of data used for actuarial analysis, valuation, pricing, reserving, and risk assessment. The study will also examine the relationship between data protection requirements, access controls, decryption procedures, processing time, and the ability of authorised users to obtain actuarial data when required. The study will focus on insurance data encryption, actuarial data accessibility, data security, encryption requirements, access controls, actuarial databases, data retrieval, data processing, insurance information systems, and actuarial analysis. The study will consider how encryption practices affect data availability, retrieval efficiency, authorised access, data transfer, and the usability of information for actuarial purposes. A quantitative research approach will be adopted for the study. Data will be collected from insurance organisations through structured questionnaires, system access records, data retrieval reports, and relevant operational information. The data will be analysed using descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, regression analysis, comparative analysis, and accessibility performance measures to assess the relationship between encryption requirements and actuarial data accessibility. Where appropriate, different encryption and access scenarios may be evaluated to determine their effects on data retrieval and processing. The study is expected to reveal that insurance data encryption requirements may affect actuarial data accessibility, particularly where encryption procedures involve complex authentication, restricted access permissions, or additional decryption processes. Stronger encryption requirements may increase data protection while potentially affecting retrieval speed and ease of access for authorised users. The magnitude of the effect may depend on encryption complexity, system infrastructure, access management procedures, user authorisation levels, and the efficiency of data security systems. The study will be useful to actuaries, insurance companies, information technology professionals, data security managers, financial analysts, regulators, and researchers. The findings may also assist insurance organisations in improving data security systems while ensuring that authorised actuarial personnel can access reliable information efficiently. The study concludes that insurance data encryption requirements are important considerations in actuarial data accessibility because security controls can influence the speed, availability, and ease with which authorised users access actuarial information. It is therefore recommended that insurers implement encryption and access management systems that provide adequate protection for sensitive data while maintaining efficient and controlled access for authorised actuarial users.
