Effect of Policy Renewal Patterns on General Insurance Revenue

Abstract

The study examines the effect of policy renewal patterns on general insurance revenue, focusing on how the frequency and consistency of policy renewals may influence the revenue generated by insurance companies. Policy renewal is an important component of general insurance operations because continued renewal of policies supports recurring premium income and strengthens the financial stability of insurers. Understanding the relationship between renewal patterns and revenue is therefore essential for effective revenue planning, portfolio management, and long-term insurance business performance. The study will investigate how variations in policy renewal patterns affect the revenue performance of general insurance companies. It will examine renewal rates, renewal frequency, policy continuation, non-renewal, and changes in policy duration in relation to premium revenue. The study will also assess whether consistent renewal behaviour contributes to more stable revenue streams and whether irregular renewal patterns may create fluctuations in premium income. Particular attention will be given to factors such as renewal frequency, policy retention, premium levels, policy duration, and the volume of renewed policies. Statistical and actuarial techniques will be applied to analyse renewal patterns and their relationship with insurance revenue. Comparative analysis will be used to examine revenue differences associated with high, moderate, and low policy renewal rates across different general insurance portfolios. A quantitative research approach will be adopted for the study. Relevant insurance policy records, renewal data, premium income, policy termination records, and revenue information will be analysed using descriptive and inferential statistical techniques. Renewal rates and revenue trends will be examined, while correlation and regression analysis may be applied to determine the extent to which changes in policy renewal patterns are associated with variations in general insurance revenue. The study is expected to reveal that policy renewal patterns have a significant influence on general insurance revenue. Higher and more consistent renewal rates are expected to support stable recurring premium income, while increased non-renewal and irregular renewal patterns may result in revenue fluctuations and reduced portfolio stability. Consistent policy renewal can contribute to stable premium income and strengthen the financial position of insurance companies, while poor renewal experience may adversely affect revenue generation. It is therefore recommended that insurers regularly monitor renewal patterns, identify factors associated with policy non-renewal, and implement appropriate customer retention and renewal strategies to support sustainable general insurance revenue.
