Effect of Adult Education on Adults’ Knowledge of Computer-Aided Design Techniques
Adult education provides opportunities for adults to acquire relevant knowledge and practical skills that can improve their participation in vocational, occupational, and productive activities. Computer-Aided Design (CAD) techniques involve the use of computer-based applications to create, modify, organize, and present technical drawings and designs with accuracy and efficiency. Despite the increasing relevance of digital design skills in construction, engineering, manufacturing, architecture, and other technical fields, some adults may have limited knowledge of CAD techniques due to inadequate access to appropriate learning opportunities. This study therefore examines the effect of adult education on adults’ knowledge of Computer-Aided Design techniques. Adult education can provide learners with structured learning experiences through demonstrations, guided computer practice, discussions, practical exercises, and the use of appropriate digital learning resources. In CAD-related learning, adults can be introduced to basic computer-aided drawing concepts, software interfaces, drawing commands, object creation, editing procedures, dimensioning, scaling, and the organization of technical drawings. These learning activities can enable adults to develop practical familiarity with CAD applications while connecting theoretical explanations with hands-on computer-based experiences. Adults’ knowledge of Computer-Aided Design techniques refers to their understanding of the basic procedures, tools, commands, and processes required to create and modify digital technical drawings. Adequate knowledge is important because effective use of CAD applications requires an understanding of drawing tools, editing functions, measurements, dimensions, layers, scaling, and appropriate methods of presenting designs. Adult education may therefore improve adults’ knowledge by providing systematic instruction, practical demonstrations, and opportunities to practise CAD techniques in realistic learning situations. The study will adopt a suitable descriptive survey research design. The population will comprise adults participating in selected adult education or vocational programmes, from which an appropriate sample will be selected using a suitable sampling procedure. Data will be collected through a structured questionnaire and an appropriate knowledge assessment designed to measure adults’ knowledge of Computer-Aided Design techniques. The research instruments will be subjected to appropriate validation procedures, while their reliability will be established before administration. Data collected will be analysed using relevant descriptive and inferential statistical techniques to determine the effect of adult education on adults’ knowledge of Computer-Aided Design techniques. The study is expected to establish that participation in adult education has a positive effect on adults’ knowledge of Computer-Aided Design techniques. Adults exposed to structured learning activities are expected to demonstrate improved knowledge of CAD interfaces, drawing commands, object creation, editing, dimensioning, scaling, and digital drawing organization. The findings may further indicate that practical computer-based exercises and guided demonstrations enhance adults’ ability to understand and retain knowledge of CAD procedures. The study will conclude that adult education can provide an effective avenue for improving adults’ knowledge of Computer-Aided Design techniques. It will recommend that adult education programmes provide adequate computers, relevant CAD software, practical demonstrations, guided exercises, and sufficient opportunities for hands-on learning. Strengthening access to CAD-focused adult learning can enhance digital technical knowledge, support vocational development, and improve adults’ ability to apply computer-aided design techniques in relevant occupational and productive activities.
