Effect of Adult Education on Adults’ Understanding of Event Entrepreneurship

Abstract

Adult Education refers to organized learning opportunities that provide adults with relevant knowledge, skills, attitudes, and competencies for personal, economic, and community development. Event entrepreneurship involves the application of entrepreneurial knowledge and skills to identify, create, organize, and manage opportunities associated with events and event-related services. Adults’ understanding of event entrepreneurship is important because it can enable them to recognize event-related opportunities and appreciate the entrepreneurial activities involved in developing and delivering events. However, inadequate understanding may limit adults’ ability to identify viable opportunities and appreciate the economic possibilities within the event sector. This study therefore seeks to examine the effect of Adult Education on adults’ understanding of event entrepreneurship. Adult Education can expose adults to event-entrepreneurship concepts through discussions, practical exercises, group activities, case examples, and community-based learning experiences. Such learning can introduce participants to opportunity identification, event idea development, audience identification, event planning, promotion, resource organization, customer needs, and basic entrepreneurial decision-making. By connecting these concepts with adults’ experiences and everyday economic activities, Adult Education can provide learners with a clearer understanding of how event-related ideas can be transformed into organized entrepreneurial activities. Adults’ understanding of event entrepreneurship involves their ability to explain its meaning, identify its major characteristics, recognize event-related entrepreneurial opportunities, and understand the basic processes involved in developing event services. It also includes knowledge of creativity, customer needs, target audiences, planning, promotion, resource use, and value creation within event-related activities. Adult Education may strengthen this understanding by helping adults examine practical examples and relate entrepreneurial concepts to real-life event opportunities within their communities. The study will adopt a suitable descriptive survey research design. The population will comprise adults participating in selected Adult Education and entrepreneurship programmes, from which an appropriate sample will be selected using a suitable sampling procedure. Data will be collected through a structured questionnaire and an appropriate assessment designed to measure participants’ understanding of event entrepreneurship. The research instruments will be subjected to appropriate validation procedures, while their reliability will be established before administration. Data collected will be analysed using relevant descriptive and inferential statistical techniques to determine the effect of Adult Education on adults’ understanding of event entrepreneurship. The study is expected to establish that Adult Education has a positive effect on adults’ understanding of event entrepreneurship. Adults exposed to relevant educational activities are expected to demonstrate improved knowledge of event-related entrepreneurial opportunities, event idea development, planning, promotion, audience identification, and resource organization. The study is also expected to indicate that practical learning experiences can improve adults’ ability to recognize event entrepreneurship as an avenue for developing useful services and participating in economic activities. The findings are expected to have important implications for Adult Education practitioners, entrepreneurship educators, event-industry trainers, and programme planners. Adult Education programmes may benefit from incorporating event entrepreneurship into relevant entrepreneurial learning activities. Practical discussions, event-development exercises, case studies, group planning activities, and opportunity-identification tasks can help adults understand the relationship between entrepreneurial principles and event-related services. Such learning experiences can also encourage adults to explore event opportunities based on community interests and customer needs. The study is expected to contribute to the understanding of the role of Adult Education in expanding adults’ knowledge of emerging entrepreneurial opportunities. It is recommended that Adult Education programmes provide relevant learning opportunities on event entrepreneurship, opportunity identification, event planning, promotion, customer needs, and resource organization. These learning activities should combine theoretical knowledge with practical examples that enable adults to understand the entrepreneurial processes associated with events. The study concludes that effective Adult Education can improve adults’ understanding of event entrepreneurship and increase their awareness of opportunities within the event-related sector.
