Impact of Event-Planning Education on Adults’ Event-Coordination Skills
Abstract
Event-Planning Education refers to structured learning that provides adults with knowledge and skills for planning, organizing, and managing events, while event-coordination skills refer to the ability to organize people, activities, resources, schedules, and other requirements involved in successfully conducting an event. Effective event coordination is important for adults involved in community organizations, businesses, social groups, institutions, and entrepreneurial activities. However, inadequate planning knowledge and coordination skills may result in poor organization, delays, resource wastage, and difficulties during events. Therefore, this study aims to examine the impact of Event-Planning Education on adults’ event-coordination skills. Event-Planning Education exposes adults to practical knowledge concerning event objectives, planning procedures, scheduling, budgeting, resource allocation, task assignment, venue arrangements, communication, logistics, and contingency planning. Through classroom instruction, demonstrations, workshops, simulations, group projects, and practical event activities, adults can develop an understanding of the different stages involved in organizing events. Such educational experiences can provide learners with opportunities to practise planning and coordinating event-related tasks in an organized manner. Event-coordination skills involve the ability to arrange activities, allocate responsibilities, manage schedules, coordinate participants, communicate with relevant persons, and ensure that different aspects of an event operate together effectively. Adults with strong coordination skills may be better prepared to manage multiple event requirements and respond appropriately to changes during implementation. Event-Planning Education can therefore contribute to improved event-coordination skills by providing adults with structured knowledge, practical experience, and opportunities to apply planning principles to realistic event situations. The study will adopt a descriptive survey research design. The population will comprise adults participating in selected adult education, vocational, business, or community-based training programmes, from which a representative sample will be selected using an appropriate sampling procedure. Data will be collected using a structured questionnaire designed to measure exposure to Event-Planning Education and adults’ event-coordination skills. The instrument will be subjected to appropriate validity and reliability procedures before administration. Data collected will be analysed using descriptive statistics and appropriate inferential statistical techniques. The study is expected to establish that Event-Planning Education has a significant positive impact on adults’ event-coordination skills. Adults who receive relevant event-planning education are expected to demonstrate greater ability to organize schedules, coordinate tasks, allocate responsibilities, manage resources, communicate event requirements, and oversee different activities during event implementation. The study may further indicate that practical simulations and hands-on event-planning exercises improve adults’ confidence and competence in coordinating events. The findings will have implications for teaching and learning in Adult Education by emphasizing the importance of practical event-planning activities alongside theoretical instruction. Adult educators may use event simulations, planning exercises, group projects, scheduling tasks, budgeting activities, and practical coordination assignments to help learners develop relevant competencies. Such approaches can provide adults with opportunities to apply planning knowledge and develop skills that can be transferred to community, social, business, and institutional events. The study will be beneficial to adult learners, adult educators, event organizers, community organizations, businesses, social groups, and training institutions. Adult learners may gain improved abilities to coordinate events efficiently, while educators and trainers may obtain useful approaches for strengthening practical event-planning instruction. Organizations that regularly organize events may also benefit from adults who possess stronger coordination skills and can contribute effectively to the successful implementation of planned activities. The study will recommend that Adult Education programmes incorporate practical Event-Planning Education and event-coordination activities into relevant skills-development courses. Adult educators should provide learners with opportunities to plan simulated or actual events, assign responsibilities, develop schedules, coordinate resources, and evaluate event activities. Training institutions should also emphasize experiential learning to strengthen practical coordination abilities. The study concludes that effective Event-Planning Education can improve adults’ event-coordination skills and prepare them to organize and manage events more efficiently.
