Impact of Training Evaluation Education on Adults’ Ability to Assess Learning Programmes

Abstract

Training Evaluation Education refers to structured learning that equips adults with the knowledge and skills required to examine the quality, effectiveness, relevance, and outcomes of learning programmes. The ability to assess learning programmes is important because it enables adults to determine whether educational activities are meeting their intended objectives and addressing learners’ needs. Effective programme assessment can provide useful information for improving instructional content, delivery methods, resources, and learning experiences. However, limited knowledge of evaluation procedures may make it difficult for some adults to assess learning programmes systematically. This study therefore seeks to examine the impact of Training Evaluation Education on adults’ ability to assess learning programmes. Training Evaluation Education introduces adults to basic concepts, principles, and procedures involved in evaluating learning programmes. Through discussions, case studies, practical exercises, demonstrations, and evaluation activities, adults can learn how to identify programme objectives, examine learning activities, assess instructional resources, gather relevant information, and judge programme effectiveness. These learning experiences can also help adults understand how evidence from learners, instructors, programme activities, and outcomes can be used to form informed assessments of educational programmes. Adults’ ability to assess learning programmes refers to their capacity to examine educational programmes systematically and determine their relevance, effectiveness, quality, and achievement of intended objectives. This ability involves identifying assessment criteria, gathering relevant information, comparing programme activities with established objectives, interpreting findings, and forming reasonable judgements about programme performance. Adults with adequate assessment skills can provide useful observations about strengths and areas requiring improvement. Training Evaluation Education can therefore provide the knowledge and practical skills necessary for effective learning-programme assessment. The study will adopt a quantitative research approach using a survey research design. The population will comprise adults participating in selected adult education, vocational training, and continuing learning programmes. An appropriate sample will be selected using a suitable sampling technique. Data will be collected using a structured questionnaire designed to assess participants’ exposure to Training Evaluation Education and their ability to assess learning programmes. The instrument will be subjected to appropriate validity and reliability procedures, while the collected data will be analysed using descriptive statistics and relevant inferential statistical techniques. The study is expected to establish that Training Evaluation Education has a positive impact on adults’ ability to assess learning programmes. Adults exposed to relevant evaluation education are expected to demonstrate improved abilities to identify programme objectives, examine learning activities, assess instructional resources, gather relevant information, and judge programme effectiveness. The study may further indicate that practical evaluation exercises enable adults to develop greater confidence and competence in making informed assessments of learning programmes. The findings will have implications for the teaching and learning of Adult Education. Adult educators may need to incorporate practical programme-evaluation activities into relevant learning programmes. Case studies, evaluation exercises, programme reviews, group discussions, and practical assessment tasks can provide adults with opportunities to apply evaluation principles to real or simulated learning programmes. Such approaches can strengthen learners’ analytical abilities and make Training Evaluation Education more practical and relevant to educational settings. The study will be beneficial to adult learners, adult educators, training providers, programme coordinators, educational institutions, and administrators of adult education programmes. Adult learners may acquire useful skills for critically assessing the quality and effectiveness of learning programmes. Adult educators and training providers may benefit from participants who can provide informed assessments of educational activities, while programme administrators may use the findings to strengthen evaluation-related components of adult education and training programmes. The study recommends that Training Evaluation Education should include practical activities that enable adults to examine and assess learning programmes using appropriate criteria and evidence. Adult educators should employ case studies, programme-review exercises, evaluation checklists, group activities, and practical assessment tasks to strengthen learners’ evaluation skills. Adults should also be encouraged to use relevant evidence when forming judgements about programme effectiveness. The study concludes that Training Evaluation Education can improve adults’ ability to assess learning programmes and contribute to more informed evaluation of educational activities.
